Chiropractic treatment is used to treat soft-tissue injuries or conditions by rehabilitating the body naturally to its original state and function as well as relieving pain and other symptoms. For chiropractors, teaching individuals how to prevent injuries and maintain their health is an important element towards achieving overall wellness.
Before starting any form of physical activity, its essential to warm up and stretch the body. A simple routine consisting of low or no impact exercises and stretches will help heat up the muscles and increase your heart rate in preparation for the next workout. Also, choosing a proper pair of footwear is important before starting any form of physical activity. A suitable pair of shoes should provide good stability, flexibility, and comfort for the individual.Being able to correctly perform a series of exercises by improving or maintaining a proper posture is especially important for individuals to prevent the development of injuries or conditions and building strong muscles can help.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:
Together with chiropractic care, a specialized series of stretches and exercises can help build strong muscles and protect the spine and body from harm. Running injuries can occur unexpectedly over a variety of reasons and situations. Once youve suffered an injury as a result of running, time and patience will be a key element towards recovery and its important to give your body the proper time to heal. Using over-the-counter medication for the symptoms of pain and cold therapy to reduce the inflammation around the injury, are all temporary ways to relieve an individuals injury or condition. But, ultimately, chiropractic care can be a great treatment option for runners. Chiropractic treatment focuses on musculoskeletal injuries, or soft tissue injuries, which can help heal many types of injuries, symptoms and conditions as well. Runners can greatly benefit from chiropractic care.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:
Running is considered to be one of the most popular forms of physical activity. This activity is not limited by location and because of its many benefits, such as building the muscles of the lower body and the burning of calories, its no wonder running is a preferred choice of exercise among many individuals. However, the constant and repetitive overuse of the feet against hard surfaces can frequently result in damage or injury to the hips, knees, and ankles. A variety of issues weigh in on an individuals likelihood of ending up with sciatica. Most of them deal with increased pressure on the spine.
According to the Mayo Clinic, sciatica can best be described as a compression of the nerves on the spine, most commonly occurring as a result of a herniated disk or a bone spur. The impingement of the nerves can then cause inflammation, pain, and often, symptoms of tingling and numbness on the affected leg. Sciatica can commonly be the result of increased stress on the spine and/or nerves of the spine.
Obesity, improper lifting, a sedentary lifestyle, and getting older are all frequent factors that cause sciatica and its familiar symptoms. Carrying too much weight can strain the spine, causing damage that may result in sciatica just as twisting the body incorrectly to lift heavy objects can also result in injury to the spine.
Treatment options for sciatica can vary and the choice depends on the severity of the condition.
Chiropractic care for sciatica works to align the spine and reduce the pressure on the lower back. Together with strengthening exercises, a persons symptoms of sciatica can be greatly reduced. Acupuncture has also shown positive results in the treatment of sciatica. Other treatment options for sciatica involving medication include, anti-inflammatory drug therapy, supplements, and cortisone injections.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.Ts insight:
Individuals dealing with the symptoms of sciatica can experience painful and irritating sensations throughout their daily activities. While diagnosing the possible root cause for sciatic pain is essential, seeking the appropriate medical treatment for relief of the symptoms is crucial towards restoring an individuals normal lifestyle. Chiropractic care, along with several other treatments, can help gradually relieve the symptoms of sciatica and improve an individuals overall health. During an auto accident, the structure and surrounding tissues of the spine can be stretched or torn. The region around the injury can then become irritated, leading to inflammation and swelling that triggers pain signals throughout the spine and brain. Pain symptoms function to inform the nervous system of complications on the site of the injury. As a result, the nervous system relays the message for the muscles surrounding the area of pain to contract in order to protect the area from further injury.
If the injury is left untreated for a long period of time, the body can develop an adverse cycle. The nerves around the injured area will continue to send pain signals, triggering the central nervous system to continue reacting. Studies have shown that the pain centers of the brain become over-stimulated or sensitized to pain stimuli which in turn can make the body over-sensitive to pain in general.Medical research has demonstrated that individuals whove been involved in an automobile accident and shown chronic pain symptoms are actually more susceptible to pain in their hands and feet, often times locations which are further from the source of their original injury.
Research shows that chiropractic treatment is an effective option for reducing the chronic symptoms from automobile accident injuries.A chiropractor can help diagnose the source of an individuals pain to begin treatment for their specific injury and level of symptoms. Through the use of spinal adjustments, chiropractic care can help progressively restore an individuals original health naturally.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:
After being involved in an automobile accident, many individuals develop chronic, widespread pain. In the past, people who described these symptoms were believed to be overstating their injuries but, with recent studies and research, its been determined that alterations which do occur on the brain and nervous system during an auto collision may be the source of chronic pain symptoms in many individuals. Living a sedentary lifestyle, improper form or injury while participating in sports or physical activities, obesity, and age can alter the natural function of the body and lead to sciatica.
Individuals who spend an extended period of time sitting, especially with an incorrect slouching posture, can increase the risk of developing spine conditions. Also, performing a sport or physical activity incorrectly can cause injury that may often result in sciatica. And last, physical changes in an individuals body, such as obesity and/or aging, can also cause sciatica.
Fortunately, there are several treatment options for individuals with sciatica symptoms. Chiropractic care for sciatica focuses on spinal adjustments and manual manipulations to gradually restore the natural condition of the spine.Alternatively, a chiropractor may also recommend strengthening exercises as a follow up treatment for sciatica. Its important to always consult a medical professional before attempting any form of physical activity to prevent further injury for your condition.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.Ts insight:
Sciatica is defined as a set of symptoms, such as pain, numbness and tingling sensations, or weakness on the lower back, buttocks, or back of the leg, usually caused when a herniated disk or bone spur in the spine compresses the nerve. Various other types of conditions or direct trauma from an injury can cause symptoms of sciatica but, most of them are characterized by increased pressure on the spine. Numerous scientific studies have indicated that when an individual receives early treatment for their auto injuries, they have better outcomes than those individuals who chose to wait.
During a collision, whiplash injuries, the most common type of injury resulting after an accident, results when the complex tissues of the neck are stretched or torn by the force of movement. Its also common for individuals to not feel pain and other symptoms soon after the automobile accident but as the structures of the neck become irritated, swollen, and inflamed, the symptoms of neck pain and stiffness can become present a couple of days after the initial event.
When the body suffers direct trauma, it responds to the injury by restricting movement and sending white blood cells to the affected region to begin healing the tissues. In this process, the body will then continue repairing the injured area by developing scar tissue. The issue with scar tissue involves the joints in the neck, which already have a moderately limited range of motion. Scar tissue reduces the necks limited mobility even further and, without proper treatment, this can lead to chronic pain, and permanent limited mobility, including spinal degeneration on the joints.
Early treatment from automobile injuries can help avoid complications by increasing the movement of the injured area and by preventing the development of scar tissue. If youve been involved in an auto collision resulting in neck pain and other symptoms, its essential to seek immediate medical attention to prevent the symptoms and other complications from developing and/or worsening.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:
After being involved in an automobile accident, its important for people to seek medical attention in order to diagnose and treat any possible injuries but, a majority of people often prefer to delay their treatment. Because most automobile accident injuries occur on the musculoskeletal level, many people choose to delay seeking treatment until they begin to experience symptoms but, this can actually lead to further issues. Weightlifting is a common type of sport or physical activity many individuals prefer for strengthening their upper body muscles but weightlifting also commonly results in injury. By following a few safety tips, you can prevent hurting yourself while weightlifting to continue training your body effectively.
The most popular weight lifting routines today mainly focus on completing a workout within a limited amount of time. Using a fixed group of exercises, the point of this type of workout is to complete the routines as quickly as each person is individually able to. Focusing on speed during an exercise or physical activity can be a major factor for potential injury. Training is about working out accordingly at the most appropriate tempo for each weight and lift.Slowing down the tempo while weight lifting will help increase the amount of energy an individual has to finish a lift. Additionally, taking a sufficient amount of time for rest in between sets can help prepare an individual both mentally and physically for the next exercise.
Then, when considering safety measures for injury prevention, an individual should note that their exercise routines for weight lifting should include lifts that strengthen and both the front and back sides of the body.Balancing exercises for the entire body will help strengthen the various muscles of the body as well as avoid overusing and underusing other muscle groups and risk an injury.
Most importantly, in order to avoid injury, an individual should never sacrifice form while lifting. Performing each lift with correct form is the best way to avoid an injury. Lifting weights that are heavier than an individuals normal lifting weight, lifting the weights rapidly, or simply being unfamiliar with the proper way to lift, are all ways that compromise form and could cause an injury.
Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:
There is an extensive variation of exercises and sports today, each which can specifically focus on strengthening different groups of muscles in the body. The variety of workouts can be suitable for enhancing every individuals fitness needs. Regardless of the fitness routine an individual chooses, injury prevention should be the most important part of anyones workout.
