Auto Injuries Causing Chronic Neck Pain

Auto Injuries Causing Chronic Neck Pain

A Canadian study found that a considerable percentage of individuals whove been injured in these types of car crashes may eventually develop a form of chronic pain.

The research was conducted at the University of Alberta where 268 people who had suffered a grade 1 or 2 neck injury as a result of an automobile accident were evaluated. These were the least severe types of injuries as the scale also consists of grade 3 and 4. Each individual was examined at 3 months, 6 months, and at 1 year after the time of the accident. Additionally, the individuals were specifically asked the question, Do you feel that you have recovered from your injuries?

The end results of the study revealed that 3 months post-injury, about 38% of individuals reported pain and other symptoms. Then, 6 months post-injury results revealed that about 22% of individuals reported pain and other symptoms. Finally, the end results of the study revealed that 1 year post-injury, about 18% of individuals still reported pain and other symptoms. The results confirmed what previous research had found. A British research paper from 2009 described that as many as 5% of individuals may be permanently disabled from an auto collision and that a considerable amount of more than 5% of individuals may experience painful symptoms even 10 years or more after the initial injury.

If youve been involved in an automobile accident and experienced an injury that is causing you symptoms of pain and discomfort, its essential to seek immediate medical attention to diagnose a possible injury or aggravated condition after the collision.Early treatment can be the key to preventing chronic symptoms from developing in the first place.

Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:

From being in a hurry, to being frustrated or distracted, automobile accidents can be unpredictable under circumstances of heavy traffic. Rear-end auto collisions are common in the suburbs and cities, causing injuries most frequently affecting the neck. Whiplash and other neck injuries resulting from auto accidents can develop into chronic pain if left untreated and it’s important to seek immediate medical attention post-injury. Use of Holistic Procedures to Assist Veterans

Healing Heroes of the Heartland held an open house at its offices at 2508 25th St., Rock Island, where many veterans and supporters assembled to discover more information about the non-profit organization. The organization is devoted to contributing holistic services to heroes, explained Angel Hong of Milan, doctor of chiropractic and holistic medical director. Although Healing Heroes in the Heartland inaugurated in 2013, utilizing holistic procedures to help individuals with anxiety, trauma, or pain is not a recent approach. Three thousand years ago, people had depression, Hong quoted.

From individuals curious of the groups services to supporters whove previously benefited from its services, more than 60 people attended the open house event, including soldiers whove been referred by doctors.

Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:

A holistic approach, or the treatment of an individual as a whole, including both mental and physical factors, has been used before to treat a variety of injuries or conditions but a current group, Healing Heroes of the Heartland, has currently organized to begin holistic treatment for active duty military members and veterans. Veteran’s Rights & Chiropractic Care Progress

Veteran’s Rights & Chiropractic Care Progress

In recent years, in recognition of the value and benefits of chiropractic care, Congress has passed, and the President has signed into law, legislation establishing a permanent chiropractic care benefit for both active duty military personnel and veterans. Furthermore, a doctor of chiropractic is now stationed in the U.S. Capitol to provide necessary care to members of Congress

To date, there is a doctor of chiropractic at 60 military bases around the country; however, according to a 2005 Government Accountability Office report, only 54 percent of servicemen and women eligible for chiropractic care can reasonably access the benefit. It is still necessary more is done to increase chiropractic access and availability.

Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) initiated the process of providing veterans with access to chiropractic care by distributing doctors of chiropractic (DCs) on staff at VA hospitals, now providing chiropractic care at approximately 40 major VA treatment facilities within the United States to date. Weight Loss Can Help Reduce Back Pain

Weight Loss Can Help Reduce Back Pain

Back pain can be relieved by controlled weight loss and a healthy lifestyle of good nutrition and exercise.

Chiropractic ranks among the most popular and effective treatment options available today for back pain. Through the chiropractic adjustment, chiropractors not only help ease the pain but also work toward correcting the problem. According to chiropractors, spinal adjustments can deliver even better results when combined with weight loss.

Obesity prevents individuals from engaging in everyday physical activities, as well as healthy exercises. These are essential for strengthening the core muscles. A stronger core can take some of the burden away from the back, thus making back pain less likely.

Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:

Participating in plenty of physical activities and exercise along with a balanced diet can help many individuals maintain a healthy weight as well as help others achieve their weight loss goals. For individuals classified as overweight, not only does the extra weight affect their overall health but, specifically, the additional pounds can create stress and pressure on the spine, often leading to back pain and other back complications. Veteran’s Rights & Chiropractic Care Benefits

Veteran’s Rights & Chiropractic Care Benefits

In the past few years, in acknowledgement of the many health benefits chiropractic care provides, a permanent chiropractic care benefit was established for both active duty military personnel and veterans. Currently, there are doctors of chiropractic, or DCs, at 60 military bases around the nation, nevertheless, according to a 2005 Government Accountability Office report, solely 54 percent of men and women in active service have reasonably been recognized as eligible for accessing their benefit and receiving chiropractic treatment. Although many chiropractic services have become available to many military service personnel and veterans, it still remains a necessity to further increase chiropractic access, contribution, and availability for the individuals that most need it.

When it comes to these services though, chiropractic care is actually part of the common medical benefits package available to all veterans. As a result, Veterans Affairs should provide a proper availability of these services to veterans by having an on-site chiropractic clinic, and by sending veterans to a private chiropractor using the fee-basis approach, where the VA pays the bill.

Dr. Alex Jimenez D.C.,C.C.S.T’s insight:

Under specific veteran’s rights, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or VA, initiated chiropractic care benefits for many veterans. With an increased availability for chiropractors on site, active duty military members and veterans can now utilize chiropractic services as another treatment option for their military injuries.
