The top new items that are considered the best, but it is also the time where people will reflect on what they have been through in the year before the new year starts. Some of them are good, while others are bad; however, it does not stop people from seeing what they can do better by moving forward. When it comes to being healthier for the new year, gyms are being flooded with new members to try and be healthier.

Since many people try to get back to a regular exercise routine, at least, many diets and detox programs are being advertised on T.V. and flying out of the shelves. As many people are trying to get rid of the “holiday weight” and start the new year being healthy. So, what does 2020 have in stores to make sure that many people who are trying to eat healthier, by taking a look at the different types of food and diet trends that made to the list for the new year.

In the 2019 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics� Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo, nutritionist Janet Helm wrote about some of the topics that were presented in the conference, which include detoxes, personalized nutrition, ketogenic diets, and CBD oil and its products. In another article about the food trends for 2020, acknowledge that keto-oriented products and different menu options have been experiencing a considerable surge being popular as people started to embrace a low carb lifestyle in their nutrition and diet. Surprisingly this goes hand in hand with what Helm was predicting as low carb products like crumbs and croutons will become popular in the new year.

Alternative Flours

Besides the low carb coatings and crumbs, there is another food product that has exploded in popularity in the last few years and shows no signs of stopping. Alternative flours have started to gain a reputation for anyone who may have food intolerances or sensitivities or if they are trying to pay more attention to their carb intake. Alternative flours are made from nuts, seeds, non-gluten grains, and cauliflower that have found their way into the shelves of grocery stores and whole food stores as well.

Bone Broth and Collagen

Another food trend that is receiving attention is bone broth and collagen powder. These two popular foods still occupy the hearts of the consumers as they provide the beneficial potential for supporting healthy skin and joints. With collagen powder, it can be added to smoothies, coffee, and tea to make the skin supple and healthy. While with bone broth, it can provide many health benefits to the body. Both of these food items have collagen peptides that the human body needs for healthy, glowing skin. According to the information that was found in the EPA, it stated that greenhouse gas emissions are about nine percent in the total amount of US greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sectors.

Additionally, the evidence shows that adequately managed ruminant animals can reduce the atmosphere’s carbon footprint rather than contributing to it. Looking at both the environmental and the nutritional aspects of both plant-based products and animal products are still being the subjects of a vast heated debate.

With all these new food trends coming into the new year, it is essential to know that they all have beneficial properties that are excellent for the body. With the start of the new year comes the numerous ads on T.V. for detox programs and cleanses that will help people who are trying to get healthier as their new year�s resolution. The detox programs and cleanses that are shown as commercials and online ads will make anyone believe that lemon water, apple cider vinegar, and green juices can help detox the body and boost the metabolism. Even though these detox programs and cleanses are alluring and may reel in unsuspected individuals. The truth is that the endocrine system helps the body runs its detoxification process all day with natural, efficient, and effective essential nutrients that are critical for each of the endocrine functions.

Naturally Detox Foods and Nutrients

If someone enjoys eating superfruits like goji or a�ai berries, there is nothing wrong with that because these berries have antioxidant properties for the body. Studies show that animal foods such as beef, pork, poultry, and many other animal products have contributed vital amino acids for liver detoxification and provide a rich source of sulfur that the body needs. With many commercial detox programs and �cleanses� that claims that it will temporarily eliminate the animal protein, however, this is not a requirement for a healthy detox. Any plant foods from the cruciferous and allium families are beneficial and crucial for the body due to sulfation via sulfotransferase enzymes for phase 2 detoxification.

There is also something else that plays a critical role in the biotransformation and detoxification of harmful compounds out of the body is none other than glutathione. Since glutathione is called the “master antioxidant,” it is a tripeptide, which is a molecule that is made up of three amino acids. Research shows that any foods can provide nutrients to help support glutathione production, especially a large proportion of animal foods like beef, pork, eggs, turkey, chicken, and lamb can provide nutrients for the body. With these nutrients contributing to the body, some of them are not found exclusively, even though they are strongly being represented but are being underscored. It is not necessary to eliminate animal foods; a person can still eat both plant foods and animal foods to help support healthy detoxification for the body.

Kidney Detoxification

Surprisingly, detoxing is not always about the liver. The kidneys need to detox as well since they are the liver�s assistants in the detoxification process of harmful toxins in the body. Since the liver can convert the fat-soluble toxins into water-soluble compounds, it makes it easier for the body to excrete the urine out of the body easily as the kidneys are regulating the detoxification.

The kidneys may be small, but they are very hardworking organs that are less than 0.5% of the body mass. In a healthy body, the filtration rate for the kidneys is about 150 quarts of blood daily. According to the information given by the National Kidney Foundation, it states that when there is frequent dehydration, it can lead to permanent kidney damage. By staying hydrated, this can prevent bad kidney function from happening and eliminating the harmful toxins out of the body.

Although this does not mean that a person should be guzzling water every day, even though it is recommended for a person to drink six to eight glasses of water, a day turns out to be a myth. In general, it is fine to use thirst as a reminder to drink water and to consume coffee and tea even counts even though there are diuretics. The research found in the Mayo Clinic found out that any foods like iceberg lettuce and cucumbers have high water content and can contribute to total water intake.

Sleep Is Very Important

Regarding detoxification, sleep is something that does not get too much attention. With the body trying to detoxify throughout the entire day, some factors can upregulate during the sleep period. Studies show that sleep or even a quick power nap is universal to all humans and animals. Not everyone exactly knows why sleep is essential, but there are many possibilities that when a person is sleeping, it is time for the brain to do a bit of cleaning for the body. This is because the brain has an easier time to process everything when the individual is not awake, and their attention is not on a hundred different things.

A recent discovery has found that the brain has a unique system called the glymphatic system, and that system is activated when a person is asleep. The glymphatic system can also clear beta-amyloid, which is the potential harmful protein that is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. New Year�s Resolution

With the new year coming up, many people make resolutions to better themselves for the upcoming year. Whether it be getting healthier, being more organized, stressing less, or living life to the fullest, resolutions are little reminders for anyone to get back on track on themselves. With the end of the month and during the holiday season, more people are more likely to put aside their health habits aside and indulge in the seasonal sweet and savory foods. The holiday season is filled with frequent gatherings with family and friends, which involves more consumption of food. In many parts of the U.S., sedentary behaviors have become a form of hibernation. Even though these holiday habits tend to make many people feel guilty, they always fuel resolutions so they can create healthier habits for when the new year begins.

Surprisingly, the most natural part is making resolutions; however, keeping them is the hardest part. Sometimes a person can make too many resolutions and can not follow through with them due to so many that they want to achieve. Other times there are people that are more likely to stick to their resolutions in the long run when their goals are more realistic than unattainable. There are a few changes that can make a tremendous impact on the person’s overall wellbeing and can make their lives a bit easier if they have a hectic lifestyle. One of the significant changes is getting healthier, and the majority of any chronic health issues can be rooted through a few practices that can sabotage a person’s physical, mental, and emotional health. So focusing on making good choices and making them habits or lifelong practices can provide a significant influence to not only the body but to the individual as well.

Getting Rid of Sugar

One of the first things that a person should do if they want to keep track of their health resolution is to ditch the overabundance sugar consumption. Many healthcare practitioners have continued to try and stop their patients from unbridled sugar consumption. It has been on the top list of chronic health problems that are plaguing the industrialized world since everyone in the world has consumed refined sugar into their bodies. Studies show that consuming refined sugar is the leading cause of dental cavities and being linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and endocrine dysfunction.

Studies even show that sugar consumption can also lead to hypertension and obesity-related cancers, as well as common mental disorders like depression. Research from the American Heart Association recommends that if both males and females want to limit their sugar consumption, then females must consume no more than six teaspoons of sugar a day. At the same time, males consume no more than nine teaspoons of sugar a day. The interesting fact is that people can reach that intake by just consuming a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Sadly though, according to a 2012 research study, the average American individuals in the U.S. have consumed 19 teaspoons of sugar a day.

The body�s metabolism requires sugar to make sure that the person�s energy is leveled. Research shows that the metabolic mechanisms in which sugar helps contribute to diseases that can be both indirect and direct to the body. When there either a low sugar count or even a high sugar count in a person, it can lead to a dysregulation of the lipids and carbohydrate metabolism. When this happens, the body can have chronic conditions like dyslipidemia, reduce beta-oxidation as well as insulin resistance. Other mechanisms can affect the body when sugar is traveling through the bloodstream, like a positive energy balance. In some cases, when the sugar metabolism is too high, it can lead to hyperuricemia, oxidative stress, and chronic inflammation in the body, and it can cause developing problems for the individual. So by making the right choices and eliminating added sugars that are in packaged foods out of the diet can result in a drastic shift towards better health for the person.

Staying Hydrated

It is highly essential that everyone at least drinks about eight glasses of 8 ounces of water every day. Sadly though, not many people drink the recommended amount of water, thus getting dehydrated. Studies show that dehydration is a common, under-recognized condition that many individuals have. Sometimes chronic dehydration starts in childhood and continues throughout their lifespan. Research shows that an estimated 54% of the population lives with chronic dehydration since the human body is nearly 85% of water and why dehydration can be problematic.

Sometimes dehydration can go beyond merely feeling thirsty. Studies show that when a person is mildly dehydrated, it can impair cognitive functions, and when it is prolonged, it can cause urinary and bladder dysfunction in the body. A good rule for anyone who wants to maintain adequate hydration is to drink at least half of their body weight in ounces of water since hydration is directly linked to body mass and making sure that the weight is leveled. By drinking plenty of water, it is a simple yet easy health resolution that people can get for free and can provide a powerful impact.

Eating a Healthy Protein Breakfast

Another health resolution that can have a significant positive impact on a person’s health is by consuming a protein-rich breakfast. Sadly though in North America, people have developed two breakfast habits that can be bad for their health. They are skipping breakfast altogether and consuming a high refined carbohydrate breakfast. Both of these bad habits have been associated with obesity and other related comorbidities.

In contrast, though when a person starts eating a protein-rich breakfast, the results are remarkable. Research shows that eating a protein-rich breakfast can help reduce a person�s appetite, increased their satiety, and provide a healthier energy intake that can get a person over the mid-afternoon slumps.
